At Mentors, our mission has always been to drive economic growth by empowering businesses through innovative solutions and personalized guidance. Today, we’re proud to announce a groundbreaking collaboration that exemplifies our commitment to creating meaningful impact across the MENA region.
A Strategic Partnership for Regional Impact
We are thrilled to partner with Wicked Acceleration Labs and Imperial College London in a pioneering initiative that will mark Wicked Acceleration Labs’ first launch in the MENA region. This collaboration, sponsored by our organization, addresses one of Egypt’s most pressing environmental and economic challenges: industrial wastewater management.
The partnership represents a perfect alignment with our core values of empowerment and innovation, as we work together to create solutions that will benefit communities, businesses, and the environment across Egypt and beyond.
Understanding the Crisis: Egypt’s Water Challenge
The data speaks volumes about the urgency of this issue. Egypt’s per capita water availability has plummeted by 60% over the past four decades, dropping to just 663 m³ annually well below the internationally recognized water scarcity threshold of 1,000 m³. This crisis is compounded by industrial pollution, with only 30% of Egypt’s industrial wastewater receiving adequate treatment, leaving 70% to contaminate vital water sources including the Nile River, which supplies 54% of the country’s industrial freshwater.

The human cost is equally staggering. In Egypt’s low-income communities, 80% of illnesses are linked to waterborne diseases from polluted water sources. Industrial contaminants, including heavy metals and chemicals with ammonia levels reaching 43 mg/L in raw wastewater, threaten both public health and food security.
Global Context, Local Solutions
This challenge extends far beyond Egypt’s borders. Globally, over 80% of wastewater is discharged untreated into rivers, lakes, and oceans, with industrial wastewater accounting for 30% of total wastewater worldwide. The economic impact is devastating, with $2.5 trillion lost annually due to environmental damage and poor wastewater management.

However, innovative solutions are emerging. Advanced technologies like membrane filtration achieve 95% contaminant removal rates, while Advanced Oxidation Processes have reduced wastewater toxicity by 30% in pilot projects globally. In Egypt specifically, decentralized treatment systems in villages have demonstrated remarkable success, achieving 90% pollutant removal at 50% lower costs than conventional plants.
Our Role in the Solution
Through our collaboration with Wicked Acceleration Labs and Imperial College London, we’re focusing on three critical areas:
Industrial Wastewater Characterization: Mapping the types and volumes of wastewater generated by key Egyptian industries, including textiles, food processing, petrochemicals, cement, and fertilizers.
Treatment Technology Assessment: Evaluating current treatment technologies and investigating advanced, cost-effective options such as membrane filtration, constructed wetlands, and anaerobic digestion.
Economic and Investment Models: Analyzing cost-benefit scenarios for upgrading treatment systems and identifying sustainable funding mechanisms, including public-private partnerships and investment opportunities.
The Path Forward
Egypt’s ambitious infrastructure development, including 151 new treatment plants designed to process 5.051 million m³ of wastewater daily, demonstrates the country’s commitment to addressing this crisis. Our collaboration aims to accelerate this progress by bringing international expertise and innovative acceleration methodologies to the region.

The potential impact is transformative. Proper wastewater treatment could save trillions globally while supporting multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals. In Egypt specifically, reclaimed wastewater could offset 20% of agricultural water demand, significantly boosting food security while protecting the Nile River ecosystem.
Building on Our Legacy
With 76 years in the market, a network spanning 41 countries, and over 47,640 trainees across 17 nationalities, Mentors brings unparalleled experience to this collaboration.
